My Philosophy...

I love the academics of Art! My philosophy is that any person can “learn” to express themselves in a constructive and satisfying way! But art is much more than “making stuff”; besides Art Production, Discipline-Based Art Education also involves the following areas:
Sketchbook: Students will be required to keep a sketchbook or sketchpad of choice. This paper will be used for quick drawing exercises and weekly drawing assignments throughout the year, as well as in class note-taking and in-class drawing.
Evaluation: Students will be evaluated in the following areas: active participation, effective use of time, completion of tasks, ability to follow directions, cooperation, grasp of knowledge, and effort.

- Art History -- The examination of the contribution artists/art have made to society and culture.
- Art Criticism -- The responding to, interpretation, and critical judgment of specific works of art.
- Aesthetics -- How our values and idea of beauty influence what we think about art.

What makes a good Composition?

Composition is the term used for the arrangements of the elements in or the subject matter of a painting. A successful composition draws in the viewer and pulls their eye across the whole painting so that everything is taken in and finally settles on the main subject of the painting.
Subject Matter refers to the main focus or idea of a work of art.
In his Notes of a Painter, Henri Matisse defined composition this way: "Composition is the art of arranging in a decorative manner the diverse elements at the painter's command to express his feelings."
